Hi Erica - I assure you it's not usually this quiet around these parts. As the only person who seems to still be regularly patrolling the message board, I though it would be polite to at least say hi. The city's lovely, the courses are fab, and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. Can't offer you a room I'm afraid, but I hope you have a lovely time here, and maybe we'll see you in October.

Hi Érica,
I'm also an international student (from Brazil) and this will be my second year at Birmingham. Last year I met many Erasmus students, including many Italians. We met at the International Student Welcome Week, which this year will take place one week before the original start of term. '
It's a time when all international students meet and are shown around the university, the city, receive help to register with a GP (General Practician, a doctor), etc. It's a VERY good way to meet people and settle down.
This year it's for free. I don't know if you've registered for it already but if you haven't, it's worth contacting the International Office at the university about it.
If you want, you can e-mail me and I could try to help you out because I will be working as a guide during the Welcome Week. My e-mail is:
silvia_paiv@hotmail.com
If you wanna know more about the Welcome Week or even if you just have some questions about life in the UK from an international student's perspective, feel free to write me. I could also put you in contact with some of my Italian Erasmus friends from last year so that they can tell you what their impressions and experiences were like.
Hope this helps and I'm sure you'll have a great time in Bham next year!
Ciao!!
Silvia |
