Bloody hell that's exactly what me and Prude said, glad it finally sank in. You said they have "no right" to be there, not that it was (in your opinion) "not right" there.

What? Stop twisting my words. I'm saying that rights and laws are not the same, just because they are there legaly, doesn't mean they actually have the right to be there.

A right doesn't change if the law does, if the commons decided that the bishops and hereditary lords be kicked out tomorrow, then you couldn't claim that it was a violation of thier rights, as they are only there because the commons allows it, however if labour made a law saying they could kick all the torys out of the commons, then you could say it was a violation of thier rights as they were elected to those seats.

Anyway to move this thread back to its original topic. The form of PR I favour is AMS or additional member system. Basically under this system the representatives for one chamber are divided into two. Half are elected directly by FPTP like now, so we'd have half the number of constituencies double the size basically. The other half are elected from party lists, these top-up the number of MPs so each party's number of seats is proportional to the percentage of the vote they got.

Let's say if we had this system here, and labour got 40% of the vote, and of the 323 directly elected MPs they got 150, they would get a top-up of 108 MPs from the other half, to get their number of MPs to 40% of 646 which is 258. If the conservatives got 30% and 100 directly elected MPs they would get an extra 93 to top up to 30% of 646 which is 193. And the lib dems got 63 directly MPs but the other 30% of the vote, they would get 130 MPs from the list to top up to 30%. Now the 323 FPTP seats can't be touched, someone wins that seat they've won it, so you could still get the SNP and Plaid getting seats like they do now, even when their national percentage wouldn't warrant them any seats at all. It is only the 323 top-up seats that are re-allocated.

This solves the problems about losing the direct contact with an MP, as well as still allowing independants to participate, but also giving a much realistic appraisal of a party's strength. Granted the system aint perfect, but I believe it is fairer than what we have now.

I'm going to start a breakaway state in my house (I should probably consult with my housemate first, but...no) It will be called Stevonia. Honk if you want to be elected to the Grand High Council of Stevonia.

And, no, the bishops have absolutely no right whatsoever to automatically get places in either house of Parliament.

We may be required to declare hostilities on the Guild at some point, so you'll need to prove you have no alliegance to that body, or you may be susceptible to any purges.
