Elections committee have taken issue with our front page. The 'acceptable' copy they've given back to us has every single reference to 'The Radish Party', 'The New Labour/Incumbent Faction' and 'Baldsoc' removed. The implications are thus:

1.) If we hand out any uncensored copies of the Radish before polling closes on Friday, each copy could potenially be held as a 'strike' against potentially every candidate associated with the Radish. There is a three strike policy, and one thousand copies of the Radish.

2.) The same applies to the website. If the article is not edited to remove all the offending comments by midday on Thursday it will be another infringement. The same presumably goes for the PDF copy of the Radish that will be placed on the website.

It's difficult to know what's going on at this exact moment. Matt and Nick are currently trying to contact as many people as possible to get their agreement on the censoring of the front page. Hopefully we'll have contacted everyone that was at the editorial meetings this week by tomorrow.

All I can say for now is that, barring any vehement disagreements from anyone over the censorship, there will be a mass censorship of the Radish tomorrow morning, preferably in as public and obvious a manner as possible, making our censorship overt as opposed to just letting it slip by unmentioned. All help would be appreciated, cause there's a lot of black marker pens needed.

PS: Obviously all the candidates in danger of being kicked out of the elections would like someone with the power to edit the article (ie. John or Julien) to do so in whatever manner they see fit. If either of you have a massive problem with doing so, please contact someone so it can be discussed.

Sorry this is so difficult, but I guess that's just the pitfalls of being part of an anarcho-syndicalist non-hierarchical newspaper-producing collective.

I have a lecutre at 9:00, but I say print the Radish with an edited front-page. Let people know it's been censored. I hear someone has 'censored' stamps, make use of them.

Thinking about it, this makes me very cross indeed. It is absolute nonsense either that we should be expected to moderate or censor other people's posts on here or that we should be prepared to do so.

The printed copy and the PDF copy are a different issue as that has been the subject of editorial decisions but anything posted on this website should remain. I'm happy to argue this out with Angell/elections committee tomorrow as demanding that we edit someones post is completely out of order. I (or a guest) could post tomorrow about the little known lotsofwoksoc faction (there isn't one for the record as far as i know) and suddenly anyone loosely associated with the Radish is disqualified? Thats crazy

For the good of the candidates who may be associated with the radish, I will edit my post (as in withdraw it) until the elections are over and we can put it back up safely. It is not a decision I am making lightly, but I believe that it is better that all candidates are allowed to contest then us be dogmatic and hang them. I hold my hands up, I should have seen the problems coming, but I didn't. Sorry guys, it's going to have to be censored posts and paper. However my post will return when it is sufficiently safe, and a hell of a fuss will be made whatever the election result.

Ok. Thanks for being gracious about it but we do need to lay down some ground rules in how we deal with the Guild as this could set a dangerous precedent.

Amazingly the censorship pixies got into the printers overnight and the edited front page has been cleared by Tom Goff! No additional censorship necessary!

So does that mean the article was released without any black pens or anything like that?

Yeah. All reference to the Radish Party had been changed to the radish writers, BALD soc became 'people who like drinking' and the new labour faction became 'people who like tony blair'. Was quite a surprise when we picked them up this morning!

You've got Matt, John and me to thank for that as they phoned me the edits yesterday morning, I re-did the PDF and then got on the phone to the printers to change it before it went through.
