As for constitution committee, I'm always skeptical of the democracy of a group chaired by Gary, but would hope you can make sure it's done properly

True it's chaired by Gary but 99% of the time that means we don't get anything done as the chair and certain other members spend the whole time arguing. It's very effective.

And as for criticising GC for approving a blank report - where were you?

TBH, If I recall Josh was one of the people who voted against approving that report.

If I recall, it was josh that pointed out that the report was totally blank in guild council and then 20 seconds later, almost everyone voted to approve it anyway.

Well, I did consider putting a few things in my report, but I've decided to keep my head down for a bit. At least until after non-sabb life memberships go thru...

Here's a novel idea - maybe the exec were working or maybe they didnt want to attend an event out of hours?

I think its harsh to criticise they work for practically nothing and work long hours - give them a break once in a while Surprised)

Also despite a motion that I seconded passing earlier in the year to ensure that all WMANUS delegates should be elected by Guild Council, our dictator president decided to choose who he wanted instead

Anyone else not buy Gary's excuse here. Convenient that Richard Charlton, who Gary doesn't like, just happened to not get contacted to ask if he wanted to go to conference, when he actually did want to go, so Gary replaced him with someone.

Have to also add I was disappointed to see an 'Independent' Chair use his position as a political platform by wearing Labour badges and colours, but I do respect him being able to chair an 8 hour meeting

Hang on a minute, the independent chair was not wearing Labour badges. He was wearing a Jon Cruddas badge and sticker, not "vote labour" or anything of the sort, just so people don't get too upset. Surely we can accept that out independent chairs have interests that are not centred around guild council?

yeah, I just don't think they should be on display, while chairing Guild Council, normally I'd say it's fine

o for f**k sake.

Indi chairs are supposed to be independent of the executive, not politics. So what if Tom supports Cruddas (who imo is a total disgrace of a Labour party member, cruddas, not Hyner)? What possible bias could supporting John Cruddas have on the meeting, or Tom’s ability to stay independent.

Independent means a lot of things. Having political affiliations elsewhere isn't necessarily a problem but they should be conmpletely separated from your role.

Funny that it's only Labour students defending the action and the vast majority of non-Labour supporters were similarly unimpressed. It might not be against the bye-laws but it is completely and utterly against the spirit of the role of Independent Chair

I'm sorry James, but what in there means that supporting Cruddas is a bad thing?
