That reminds me of a question i have about my hard drive. It's a 320GB, and I've installed about 50GB of games on it. However, I only have 178GB left on it... which is 228GB without the games. So... where are my other 100GB's??? I think Windows partitioned it for itself. This makes me angry cause its 100GB. but i'm not sure if thats correct.

There are a few reasons why that may be happening that I know of, two of which are not good - and you should beef up any protection you have at your disposal.

1.) If you set the size of the windows swap file manually to 1/100th the size of your drive, ie. 3.2GB you may get it back.

2.) If you have poor firewall support, you may have been infected by a peer2peer type trojan that uses your HD for it's own storage for a virtual p2p network, and you need to do some scans to try and find out what it is to get rid of it.

3.) Or, a root-kit may have been installed on your drive for the same purpose, either way you probably need to do some research into the matter.

4.) If your using vista, MS may have a new backup system that I am unaware of - at any rate, more research should be done to find out what happened to your missing GB's.

ADVISE: Take two(2) scanners and PM me 2moro.

You might try: 'HouseCall' from Trend Micro. I use 'Avast', a free virus scanner that updates everyday. 'AVG' is also popular.

AVG was one I let DVD in about. It managed to get rid of 'VirusHeat' which was a nasty one. House Call is too slow, and the process used to start it up take a while. It is done via the internet.

I've got Norton, yeah, but its cool. I'll run some scans.

lol I think MS is just using people's computers to create a massive world server.

All of those scanners are very well known, and sorry to say but Norton has a history of missing a few viruses here and there.

HouseCall is slow because it's very thorough, 'PC Cillin' has been used and is still being used by many OEM distributors and corporations that depend on daily updates to the most prevalent and serious virus & malware threats, but when they started charging for upgrades I switched to Avast because it's still free!

Looks like quite a few people have run into that one!: http://www.google.com/search?q=VirusHeat

Speaking of Scanners!

Microsoft, is up to their old tricks again - apparently coming up on June 1st. MS will activate a 'MS System Scanner' that is already in place, to scan for unauthorized copies of their operating systems and disable the ones that aren't legal.

Their means of distribution are any and all IM, PM & chat programs & updates - along with all ISP Companies being paid mucho denero to activate system scans on that day and thereafter supposedly.

So, if you're using an older version of windows online - such as 2000, ME or 98 that came out before XP, it will be disabled and you will lose access to the drive and your files - so BACKUP your stuff now! MS also plans to stop support for the 32bit version of XP on June 30th, but the 64bit will still be supported for quite some time.

I know I posted this somewhere else in the forums awhile back, but I couldn't find it - along with the post about UT3 updates also having the scan engine in it as well. Epic is a turncoat again, working for MS and screwing the masses with their promised & failed PC version of the Ultimate Online Deathmatch Game UT3, with less than 100 US sales & less than an average of 25 US players online.

BTW, UT4 is already in the planning stages. o.O

This is just a WARNING to anyone who has reinstalled their OS and not registered it, or to somebody who might occasionally get online with an older OS just to check their mail or w/e.

PS. I still don't see how MS can legally disable a perfectly good OS, authenticated & registered - just because it's more than a few years old!

OoPs! Small book again! hehe :D

I am safe, woop! Well DVD, just another way to force people to update. To be fair, Windows 98 people piss me off because their OS sucks, hehe xD About the deactivation, kind of hidden away, you should make sure it's large and visible so people can see. MJ tell you about that?

I have Norton on MY computer, which internet's broke somehow, and it's the same with my XBOX 360 now. I tried running scans on it, wondering if the lightning hitting my roof and making stuff go wierd woke a dormant virus up or something, causing it to kill the internet. Turns out, THERE'S NO SCAN BUTTON! Seriously, Norton Security Center, only thing I could find with that thing, and it wasn't in there. Soooo, where is it?

Anyway, I hate MS for what they've done. Faulty system after faulty system. Making us waste money. And the thing is, some Anti Viruses you have to PAY for! We spend money on the computer, and we need to spend more to protect it.

BTW, when this computer was scanned after it finally got a Anti Virus, it recorded up to eight HUNDRED viruses! Oddly enough...nothing happened, 800 of em, didn't notice anything caused by them. Oh, for some reason after the scan, COD4 just disappeared from my computer, had to reinstall, but I still had my profile, thankfully.

Want a good free one that works me wonders? Try AVG Free. For the maximum protection, you must pay for AVG, but they have a good load of protections on the free, unlimited day version. You can check it out here:

AVG Main Website
Download Page
Final Download Site

Go and get it. Min comes with the following:
Anti-Virus
Anti-Spyware
E-Mail Scanner
Link Scanner
As well as a few bits and bobs and it comes with a button that allows you to update your free version. AVG blocks sites suspected of having viruses before you go in. AVG allows you to set a scan time so you can scan your PC everyday. Just do yourself some favours and get it.

Hehe, I'm using XP with no bells and whistles - so it looks just like 98 and a bit faster.
Yeah! MJ's got his finger on the MS pulse, if BG farts he knows about it! o.0

Probably because it was infected with a destructive virus and was unrecoverable!

I would imagine there will be a big majority of users switching to Linux or some other OS, not wanting to deal with MS's BS anymore!
There are many OEM Dealers that are up in arms because they're going to lose a lot of money from any previously purchased installations they haven't sold yet, like one of MJ's OEM suppliers - he says he's about ready to switch to Linux himself!

Get ready for a bunch of Headlines about class action law suits against MS again, this ones not going to be taken lightly!

There are some companies that still need to use the older OS's too, like dairy companies - they use older 286 CPU's to run their milking machine servers, and what OS do you think they use? Probably Windows 3.1 or 95, so if they have any online capability to service or check the status of those milking systems - will they get shutdown as well? Probably not, but I can imagine many other 3rd world companies still using the older OS's for many of the less important tasks of maintaining their business's.

Just some more food for thought! -0.0-
