Prologue

It is the time of the bloody and cold-blooded French Revolution. The incompetent Louis XVI has been overtaken after the revolutionaries stormed through Bastille. In the mist of this all are a group of young people, many of whom are still unsure which group they belonged to: Radicals, Conservatives, or Moderates. As they make their decision, they face the fate of leading the revolution, fighting the revolution, and escaping the revolution.

In the end, can you escape the hands of death?

Background information

For more than 100 years, France had been the largest and most powerful European nation. Within a few months, however, the king lost his power to make laws, and eventually the people's elected representatives voted for his execution. These new rulers wrote a constitution and reformed many laws. The radical change made people feel that they were living in a new era. But how did the French Revolution begin?

Before 1789, often referred to as the Old Regime, French society was divided into three classes. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Estate. While the First and Second Estates had the fewest people, they also had the most wealth, power, and privilege. The First Estate consisted of the clergy of the Catholic Church and was made of less than 1% of the population. The Second Estate, the nobility, was less than 2% of the population. Both Estates retained their power from the Middle Ages, and paid little to no taxes.

The Third Estate was approximately 97% of the population and was divided into 3 groups: Bourgeoisie, the laborers, and the peasants. These people were under the absolute rule of the king, and discontent of the heavy taxes, increasing inflation, and the absolute power of the king. Mutual discontent occurred with "equality" and "liberty", and though these words meant differently to everyone, they unified the French against the king in 1789.

Basic Plotline

This RP will focus mainly in Paris, where most of the Revolution took place. Your character can be a part of different things: participating in the battles between the radicals and the conservatives, escaping the city of Paris, or simply watching the Revolution take place. The ending of this RP will be about a final battle, which will decide who takes the city of Paris (Conservatives, Radicals, or Moderates).

You may create as many characters as you want, but be willing to kill off some of your characters. You may keep one as your main character and not kill him/her off, if you wish.

Rules - Shortened them up a bit.

1. No God-moding. To kill other RPed characters, ask for permission first.

2. Follow all chatting and RPing rules in the Syuura forum. If you have anything to say that is about the story but not with the plotline, use OOC:, [[]], or post in the profile thread. If you have anything to say that has nothing to do with the story, use PM.

3. No Mary/Gary-Sues.

4. This RP is literates only. Simple but proper English is expected.

5. Original characters and nonfictional characters are all allowed.

6. Japanese references (ie. Wapanese, names) is highly frowned on. I understand Syuura is a Japanese manga forum, but this story is taking place in France where Japan has never been heard of.

7. While you may not be Japanese, you can be of other European nationalities (ie. German, Italian, Spanish, British). While this may not exactly be historically accurate, there were indeed foreigners from other parts of Europe. However, the likelihood of a Japanese foreigner is far too impossible to be allowed.

Classes

First Estate: The clergy.
Second Estate: The nobles.
Third Estate: The rest of the population [[Choose one of the subgroups]]
a. Bourgeoisie- The middle class. Merchants, manufacterers, professionals (ie. Doctors, lawyers)
b. Laborers and artisans- Workers of the city or the craftsmen. (ie. Painter, sculptor)
c. Peasants- Farmers of the land. Most of the population are peasants.

Factions - Which "side" you belong to

Conservatives (Right): Supporters of the monarchy. Some may be against the king, but do not wish for change. (ie. Limited authority for the king, yet keeping the monarch as a figurehead.)

Radicals (Left): Supporters of the Revolution. Most want to completely get rid of the king, set up a republic, and institute far-reaching changes.

Moderates (Middle): Neutral citizens. They do not have extreme views, but may take sides of either Conservatives or Radicals depending on the issues.

Appearance: Dark brown hair that hangs low at the base of his neck; side-swept bangs that cover his right eye; light complexion; slender and tall; pale green eyes; distinguished nose; thin lips.
Details: Marquis, as the third cousin of Marie Antoinette, supports the monarchy despite his disapproval of the King. As an aristocrat, he pities the lower class citizens, but feels no need or desire to help them. He is stubborn, conceited, anal, and a bit of an a*sho*e. On top of that, he is flirtatious and loves women.

Can we take real characters from the French Revolution and rp them? Such as Marie Antoinette, Charles comte d'Artois, Denis Diderot, Grace Elliot, Henri Grégoire, etc, you get the point. (And yes, I did read, printed and marked almost all of what Wikipedia had to offer me about the French Revolution, yes, I was that bored but I'm afraid it is still not enough. -_-; )

Name: Lazar Kléber
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Class: Third Estate - Peasants
Faction: Moderate
Appearance: A lifeless dirty brown oily hair which almost covers all of his face. His green eyes show no life at all. He looks older than he actually is, eventhough his body isn't robust.
Personality: Lunatic. Rarely does he ever shows traces of sanity. His mood can change from laughing hysterically to scream and throw himself against things.
Details: Lazar wasn't always a mad orphan young man. His family was killed, his parents accused of forgery. His sister gone missing, probably killed and her body buried somewhere while his younger brothers we're probably killed as well, and if not, they we're probably dead by now too. Taking the sentence of his family, he was sold, already half-mad, and used for heavy works and slept in a hole, which was covered then with a huge stone in order that none would be able to escape from there. When he got older, he was sold once again to an italian baron's servant so that he would be used for fights until the death to please nobles. Being near death numerous times, usually from hunger or wounds, turned him into the lunatic he is today. But he has no memories of it now nor does he have the ability to care about it most of the time. Maybe because he shows no human traces of sanity must be why he has an inhuman strenght. After attacking the nobles, he was sent to the Bastille and was later released when the civilians stormed through Bastille.

When his madness is provoked, it is said he kills people mercilessly like a demon and he is often mistaken for a famous french serial killer...but the possibility of him being that person is pretty high as well.

Details: Basically is a snob. Her father spoils her way too much. (mother is strict) She can't stand the sight of "filthy" peasants, so she always rides on a carriage whenever going somewhere, and hides her face with a fan. She's trying to get Marquis (if that's ok with you, Kon) marry her. She doesn't really care about the Revolution, but cares only about herself.

Appearance: Thin, tall, white hair and beard, bald (for the most part), faded blue eyes, sickly complexion.
Details: Born between Spanish royalty and French nobility, Ajedro is a man of many cultures. He is respected as a church leader, and is often asked for advice by kings. As the great-uncle to the King of France, he can't help but to love the monarchy. At the same time, he holds high esteem for the revolutionaries.

Appearance: Straight blond hair, shoulder-length center part, pretty face, dark blue eyes, long fingers, pale

Personality: Quiet most of the time, can be considered serious, can say very nasty things if he wants, clever, abstract if anything, observant

Details: Painter, has a twin sister [Blanche], could be called the “good” twin, parents died two years ago, supports him and his sister and manages their inheritance, father was a merchant so they're fairly well off; really doesn't care about the Revolution, he's just trying to make a living and keep painting because he likes it.

I'd like to RP his sister too, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to. If I'm not allowed to, I guess I could always just get rid of the sibling thing. Tell me yes or no.

@Aka-kun: No, here is fine, because other people need to know as well.
1) Being intimidating is fun. xD But for your sake, I changed my rules just a little, but it's still to the point.
2) Actual characters are okay, but because this RP is taking place during the Revolution, but is not exactly about the Revolution, playing the major characters might not be too well. But it's up to you.
3) Not all of your minor characters have to be killed, but people should be able to kill other people's character. Because it really is difficult to always kill my characters or kill someone that no one knows.

@Kon: Is Marquis going to be your main character? Because if he is, then I'd like to know if we can kill off Ajedro right off the bat. Just to spark up some competition between the cons and the rads.

@Iain: RP his sister all you want to. I'm pretty sure that we'll need her. One way or another.

Details: his father died during a protest, so it left him to take care of his sickly mother and baby sister. young and emotional, he is driven by his father's will and his desperation to feed his family. he works for one of the leading families of the revolution. Details: Christian's sister, was once engaged to someone but her fiance died in a battle somewhere? or something, doesn't really matter how he died, he's just dead; didn't really care about her fiance, is a Radical because she sees how badly he's managing things and believes siding with royalty is foolish as the radicals will eventually win; lacks a bit of morals, think Scarlett O'Hara

Appearance: Slender, tall, light complexion, distinguished nose, large eyes of bright blue color, black hair, long bangs that cover eyes, short ponytail, missing a toe on his right foot.
Details: Alphonse is a sculptor of great skill. Members of the Church, nobility, and even Kings have requested his work in their homes. Strangely, he never accepts great wealth for any of his products, preferring to live a simple life. Alphonse never speaks of his complaints against the monarchy, but he is a radical that dreams of freedom and equality. He is essential to the radicals due to his money (has more than most), his cool and collected head, and his popularity among the higher class citizens.

Personality: Ambitious, opposite of careless, smooth, sometimes lacks the words to express himself so some people regard him as quiet, persuasive, calculating

Details: One of the advisers of the Royal family, for example, knows the king and queen, etc., courtesan, married but his wife is somewhere in the countryside and he doesn't really see her and doesn't care to, it was an arranged marriage for name and money; is trying to keep the monarchy in power because he and his family are in the monarchy's favor
