| If you're not already part of the elite, you might not know this, as they're advertising it with all the usual enthusiasm. NUS Conference nomination forms are available at reception, and there'll be another round of Guild Council elections at the same time. Get yer name down (especially for the latter), and get yerself to the Guild Council Chambers to help those of us who are already there censure people and generally make a nuisance of ourselves. |

Now with that attitude you'll be branded as a radish before the day is out. I must say I find it quite interesting that a non-right winger is studying business, means all is not lost for the field, possibly.
While we're on the subject of being a radish, I'd like to categorically state to everyone that I am not a radish.

Well, doing business has probably made me more left wing really. But thats not saying alot really. I did it initially cos its a "good all round degree" but now I just want to help people. And you'd be suprised, there are a fair few lecturers in the business sch who are certainly left of centre....

This brings up another point, do you really want to be GCer for the business school? I mean you in some ways have less freedom to vote how you want (if you properly consult your constituents) cos they'll probably have a wider range of views, and fewer common interests. If you're the amnesty one, you can vote more how you want, cos you know will share more of the same beliefs, seeing as you joined a society because of common interests (some would say political interests, but I know amnesty insist they are not political).
Not having a go here or telling you what to do, but this raises an interesting point. Is it easier to be a GCer for a political/campaigning society? Than an academic GCer. I know if I have my time again as a GCer I would rather have a campaigning or political society with which I had common cause than as my constituency than an academic school. Or am I missing the point? I mean my argument only works if you truly represent your constituents views whatever type of GCer you are.

Yeah, this crosses my mind. The first thing is that I'm sure however hard I try to represent the business school, im sure they arent going to engage which gives me a free vote.
and at the end of it, if they did engage i would vote the way they wanted, because, hey, everyone deserves representation and it really bothers me that some people dont get it at all. even if its at the expense of my own beliefs.

| I'd like to stand for Physics and Astronomy academic councillor (next year, when I step down as Paintball Club chair and the academic positions are up for election again), except that there are only two ordinary positions and I don't want to stand against and possibly "depose" either of the two people who currently hold them. Hmm, will have to have a think... |

| In other news, the nominations opened last Monday apparently, which was kept rather quiet for a few days. Nominations close on Friday, and you need to have a manifesto in by then too. Because, of course, opening the nominations in the last two weeks of term when ordinary students have deadlines, not teling anyone so they don't find out until they have even less time, and insisting they have their manifesto (yay! extra work!) in at the same time as their nomination form is totally democratic, right? |

Ummm, I picked up an nus nomination form today and it said nominations close on friday the 19th of january and the GC one says nominations end on the 23rd of january. |
