If we cut out all the people we'd have so much less CO2 emission from breathing, less consumers using all these nasty evil polluting capitalist tools of oppression and less cars on the road. We wouldn't have to generate as much electricity, build as many houses over green land, produce as many products, use as much genetic modification on our foods or import so much oil/gas/etc. from the Middle East/Eastern Europe/wherever. We wouldn't need to fight wars since there'd be plenty of territory and resources for everyone.

I think we all know what the solution is

Wonderful sentiment but i feel the problem should probably taken more seriously by some Laughing

A shade harsh. But I guess we all do.

This whole sad saga of this began in the 70s with the discovery of north sea gas. The government put in place regulations so stop gas being burned for electricity, as it was deeded too usefull for industrial and domestic use to be wasted for electricity when coal could be used.

This continued untill 1990, when they lifted the restrictions and the 'dash for gas' began. Now 40% of ur power is from gas, and as northsea gas only produces 50kg of CO2 compared to 90kg produced by coal for the same amount of power, this has the result of making the UK's power production more efficient since 1990. This is why the UK seemed to be on target for its emmision goals which were based on 1990 levels when the UK was fueled by coal.

However, now it has all gone t**s up as the north sea gas has all been pissed away leaving the UK importing both gas and oil. We will soon have to import all our gas for both industrial and domestic use as well as electricity generation. Imported gas does not repesent the same emmissions saving over coal as north sea gas did as it takes a lot of energy to pipe the gas to the UK.

Natural gas has been used for cheap electricity generation, keeping the less profitable renewables out of the market, now as supplies run low and with renewable technology neglected, the energy producers are considering switching back to coal. And worse still power producers want to import brown coal from third word countrys because it is cheaper than british coal. Brown coal produces 110kg of CO2 compared to 90kg from hard coal, plus impoted coal needs transport and is not mined as efficiently. The UK has some of the worlds most efficient mines with vast reserves of coal, however most of them are mothballed as it is cheaper to import it from third world contrys where wages are lower and safety is worse.

Basicly the current govenment didn't stop the dash for gas as they promised because it was too profitable for energy producers and made them look good for emmisions targets, and now there is no gas left and we are f**k over.

We'll all be long gone before the planet dies, and if in the meantime the planet warms up... well my mate commented that it's a bit chilly today for May, would be nice to have a nine-month summer methinks...

Except it's quite likely it would get colder here.

And I'd be more concerned over the fact our gas supply will soon be controled by every country between here and Russia.

Yes as any book-worm geographer will tell you global warming will actually make the UK cooler. A lot cooler. As far as they can tell.

Better all leave the UK then.

the UN should tax countries according to their CO2 emmissions. It would never get ratified though.

I think it would work though. Make it law. I think we're headed for another ice age, thinking about James Lovelock and his analogy Daisyworld, as we're having a warm spate in climate history, we need 'white daisies' or glaciers to balance it out, and we're kind of due one anyway. Do you think we could survive an ice age?
