Asked to explain what he meant, Mr Blair replied: "If you believe in God, it's made by God as well."
That's the bit that gets me - so the decisions of anyone who believes in God are made by God and endorsed by God as well? It doesn't even make sense!
Aww poor Tony - it's just him and his conscience. If only he realised he could enlist the help of Parliament and the opinions of his electorate as well - then maybe it wouldn't be so hard to make decisions _________________ 'Men make their own history, but not of their own free will; not under circumstances they themselves have chosen'

all Blair said was what any other Christian or Catholic or probably Jew or Muslim would say.
It doesnt stop him trying to make the best and most moral decisions - no real Christian would play the "God made me do it" card |

Its certainly not on the same scale as Bush
"God told me to strike at al Quaeda and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did." |

Comments like this really aren't helping his 'Bush's Lapdog' status. _________________ FSLN1 |

Quite! Also, to agree with Dear Prudence, Blair seems to be undermining his own understanding of what it is to be Prime Minister when he makes such comments- It doesn't rest upon his concience alone.
It also seems a rather alienating statement to make, in that he seems to be smugly saying 'if you believe the same as me, this will make sense to you, however if you don't, there's no way I can explain it.'
Citing God as a justification in such matters is rather a cop-out, I'd say. _________________ "since feeling is first who pays attention to the syntax of things will never wholly kiss you: wholly to be a fool while spring is in the world, for life's not a paragraph/ and death I think is no parenthesis" (e.e. cummings) |

wasn't he just saying that he'd be judged by god.. he's been saying "i made the decision i thought was best" for ages, now he's just expressing the fact that some people think he was wrong and some people think he was right, by admitting that it's a matter of opinion and the only absolute answer could come from god (hypothetically or actually).
there was no 'god made me do it', nor even a bush-esque 'it was god's will' cop-out.
he was still asking for it mentioning god in front of the british though. _________________ www.ilovecubus.co.uk |
