No, I thought national Womans day is Shrove Tuesday, because they get to spend all day in the kitchen, making pancakes.

Cool

I hate pancake day, it restricts peoples thinking and stops them from having pancakes every day which is how it should be cos pancakes are brilliant. Everyday should be pancake day.

Yet another example of religion restricting people!

Hot cross buns and creme eggs too! I want them all year!

an association is a group within the guild there to protect the interests of and promote the equality of groups that might not otherwise be represented. They deal with welfare issues and campaigning for those groups amongst other things. (see the thread on mens association for all the constitutional stuff on what makes them an association)

we have an international students association, a womens association an LGBT association and a postgraduate mature students association

as for the womens association specifically - http://students.bugs.bham.ac.uk/womens/ - is their website, what they do - taken from the guild site;

"We meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Women's Room in the Guild of Students. Feel free to come along to any of our meetings.

The Association of Women is here to represent and support all women students, however they define themselves. We hold socials, campaigns and debates on issues affecting women. Last year, we had a Funny Women social evening, held a debate with Deb Soc on the subject of whether feminism has caused more problems than it has solved, ran a domestic violence fundraising and awareness campaign and got equal access to sports facilities for the women's rugby team. This year, we are running a body image campaign, and holding a Reclaim the Night march. We recently raised over £300 for Birmingham Women's Aid.

We also provide free contraception and information on a variety of issues, such as mental health, safer sex, and childcare. We will be running welfare drop-in sessions, as well as a telephone and email listening and support service.
To contact us, email womens@bugs.bham.ac.uk, come to one of our meetings or leave a note in our pigeonhole in the basement. To join our mailing list, send a blank email to bham_uni_women-subscribe@yahoogroups.com."
