From wikipedia.org:
Omitting any parenthesis, all requests for /seo/someoldfile.php should redirect to the root URL of http://www.seomoz.org
RedirectMatch 301 /seo/(.*) http://www.seomoz.org/$1
(*.) matches zero or more of any character and saves it as the back-reference $1. \.(phphtml) tells apache to match a period followed by either “php” or “html” and saves it as the back-reference $2 (although this isn't used in this example). Notice the escaped period with a backslash. This is to ensure apache does not interpret the period as meaning “any character” but rather as an actual period. Enclosing “php” and “html” in parenthesis and separating them with a pipe “” character means to match either one of the values. So if it were to say (phphtmlcssjsjpggif) the regex would match any of the files with the extensions php, html, css, js, jpg, or gif.
Redirect: http://seomoz.org/
To: http://www.seomoz.org/
Add the following directive:
The per-server context requires that a developer must edit the apache configuration file, httpd.conf. The per-directory context uses .htaccess files that exist in each folder a user wants to configure. If a webmaster can not access httpd.conf, they will have to use .htaccess files.
Explanation:
Redirecting specific files and folders from one domain to another:
Several files that existed on the old server were no long present on the new server. Instead of preserving the file names in the redirection (which would result in a 404 not found error on the new server), the old files needed to be redirected to the root URL of the new domain.
Context
Solution:
Problem:
Solution:
301 Redirects in Apache
In order for this to work a web server needs to have the apache module mod_rewrite installed.
Add the following directive to the applicable file on socengine.com's server:
Explanation:
Redirect: http://seomoz.org/somefile.php
To: http://www.seomoz.org/somefile.php
It is common practice to redirect one to another. When doing this, it is critical to observe best practices in order to maintain .
Solution:
Conclusion:
Solution:
Redirect: /seo/guide/anyfile2.php
To: http://www.seomoz.org/articles/anyfile2.php
A regular expression is a string that describes or matches a set of strings, according to certain syntax rules. Regular expressions are used by many text editors and utilities to search and manipulate bodies of text based on certain patterns.
RedirectMatch 301 /seo/someoldfile.php http://www.seomoz.org
The original developers at SEOmoz needed redirection from the old server to the new one with the filenames preserved.
Add the following directive:
Redirecting while changing file extensions:
Explanation:
Some of the PHP scripts had different names but the GET string stayed the same. The SEOmoz developers needed to redirect the visitors to the new PHP scripts while preserving these GET strings. The GET string is the set of characters that come after a filename in the URL and are used to pass data to a web page. An example of a GET string in the URL http://www.seomoz.org/myfile.php?this=that&foo=bar would be “?this=that&foo=bar.”
Explanation:
Redirecting the GET string:
Solution
In the original scenario there was a folder of files on the old server that were mixed HTML and PHP. On the new server these files were all PHP and needed redirect logic to change the old URLs to this new extension.
The first common example of this takes place with a simple scenario, a URL that needs to redirect to another address permanently.
Transferring content becomes more complex when an entire site changes it's or when content moves from one domain to another. Due to abuse by spammers and suspicion by the search engines, 301s between domains sometimes require more time to be properly spidered and counted. For more on moving sites, see Danny Dover's .
Add the following directive:
Redirect: /seo/someoldfile.php
To: http://www.seomoz.org/
The original developers at SEOmoz needed to redirect any requests that do not start with mon canonicalization errors.
Redirecting Canonical Hostnames:
Regular expressions are an valuable skill to learn for both programmers and systems administrators. To redirect URLs according to the examples in this document, it is important to understand the basics of using regexes. The following is a list of the characters and operators that are used in the regexes described in this document:
Redirecting without preserving the filename:
RewriteEngine On
Be aware that when moving a page from one URL to another, the search engines will take some time to discover the 301, recognize it, and credit the new page with the and of its predecessor. This process can be lengthier if the given web page if search engine spiders rarely visit it or if the new URL doesn't properly resolve.
SEO Best Practice
Most apache installations will have mod_rewrite installed by default. SEOmoz's original server rand the Linux distribution FreeBSD and mod_rewrite was included by default. To check to see if the module is installed, a developer can verify it is working by adding the following line to the apache configuration file or or to an applicable .htaccess file:
There are multiple options for doing this, but in general, a single one, the 301 redirect, is preferable for both users and search engines. Serving a 301 indicates to both browsers and search engine bots that the page has moved permanently. Search engines interpret this to mean that not only has the page changed location, but that the content, or an updated version of it, can be found at the new URL. The engines will carry any link weighting from the original page to the new URL, as below:
The regular expression /seo/(.*) tells apache to match the seo folder followed by zero or more of any characters. Surrounding the .* in parenthesis tells apache to save the matched string as a back-reference. This back-reference is placed at the end of the URL that was directed to, in this case, $1.
The mod_rewrite module operates in per-server context or in per-directory context.
Once again the regular expression (.*) tells apache to match zero or more of any character and save it as the back-reference $1. Since there is a $1 after /seo/categorydetail.php, it will now redirect the get string to this new PHP file.
Explanation:
Example
Installation:
This directive tells apache to examine the host the visitor is accessing, and if it does not equal parison, saying “if the host IS NOT www.seomoz.org, then perform RewriteRule.” In our case RewriteRule redirects them to www.seomoz.org while preserving the exact file they were accessing in a back-reference.
The simplest approach to do this would have been to add 301 redirects to the PHP code that powers SEOmoz.org using PHP&rsquo;s function. Utilizing the power of the apache module , however, the developers realized they could match specific patterns for entire folders and redirect them to their new URLs without having to go through every PHP script.
Regular Expressions (aka Regexes)
Other options for redirection, like 302s and meta refreshes, are poor substitutes, as they generally will not pass the rankings and search engine value like a 301 redirect will. The only time these redirects are good alternatives is if a webmaster purposefully doesn't want to pass link juice from the old page to the new.
Add the following directive:
Solution:
RedirectMatch 301 /seo/categorydetail.php(.*) http://www.seomoz.org/artcat.php$1
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} *!^www*.seomoz\.org [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.seomoz.org/$1 [L,R=301]
Redirect: /seo/guide/anyfile.html
To: http://www.seomoz.org/articles/anyfile.php
Redirect: /seo/categorydetail.php?CAT_ID=12345
To: http://www.seomoz.org/artcat.php?CAT_ID=12345
Redirect: /seo/somefile.php To: http://www.seomoz.org/somefile.php
Back when seomoz.org was originally created, it was hosted at /seo/ rather than on its own domain. When the original developers were moving seomoz.org to its own dedicated server, they wanted it to be accessed as its own domain rather than as a subdirectory of socengine.com. They needed visitors accessing anything in /seo/ to be redirected to modate several file and folder name changes and had to be done with 301 redirects in order to be search engine friendly. They also needed to forward http://seomoz.org to http://www.seomoz.org for aesthetic purposes and to avoid errors.
Redirect: http://mail.seomoz.org/
To: http://www.seomoz.org
RedirectMatch 301 /seo/guide/(.*)\.(phphtml) http://www.seomoz.org/articles/$1.php
By harnessing the power of mod_rewrite and a little regular expression magic the original developers at SEOmoz developed a set of simple rules for redirecting web pages. By using 301 redirects they did this in a way that was search engine friendly.

Plus, since iWeb SEO Tool automatically saves all tags internally, when you update your website in iWeb, you can re-apply your analytics code at the click of a button.
With iWeb SEO Tool you can quickly and easily add Google Analytics, Statscounter, Mint, or any other analytics code to your iWeb website. Just copy and paste the snippet of code provided by your favorite analytics code into iWeb SEO Tool and let the software take care of the rest.
Meta tags are still used by some search engines, including Google, to properly gather all the information about your website.
Unfortunately, iWeb has never allowed you to specify alternative text for your image files, hindering your chances of ranking at the top of both regular and media based search engines. With RAGE iWeb SEO Tool you can easily add alternative image text to all images on your website.
Since search engines are unable to "see" the contents of image files, any images you place on your website provide no meaning or benefit to search engines. HTML has always allowed you to specify alternate image text, which is a small snippet of text describing what the associated image depicts. Search engines use this text snippet to help rank your website in their search results.
Let Search Engines See Your Images With Alternative Image Text
Easily Add Google Analytics, Statscounter and more to your iWeb Website
Title tags are the most important on-page search engine optimization you can use to help improve your search engine rankings.
iWeb SEO Tool Features Easily Edit Your iWeb Title Tags
Your meta description is a short description of your webpage content. Like your title tag, and all other meta tags, it should be unique for each one of your webpages. Provide a short description of what visitors should expect to see on your webpage. Search engines will use your description meta tag in the search results page right underneath the title tag.
Add Your Important Meta Tags to Your iWeb Website
Enter 2 - 3 important keywords in your title tags for each of your web pages on your iWeb site. Make sure your title tags are unique for each page and accurately describe what search engines, and your visitors, will find on your website.
Your meta keywords are used by some search engines to determine what keywords your website should appear for in their search results page. Place a short list of targeted keywords in this field. Keep in mind that meta keywords are no longer used by most major search engines and do not provide instant results. If placing at the top of search engines were as easy as entering a few keywords, we would all have top ranking websites.
In addition, with the advent of search engines like Google image search and Yahoo image search, alternative image text has been even more important to help get your image files ranking in media based search engines.

                                      Posted: Thu Mar 28, 2013 1:16 am

You can check content from your own website to make sure nobody else has been ripping you off!
While this free plagiarism checker may be used for checking rewritten or spun content to eliminate consistencies (and raise the unique value of each article) its benefits aren’t restricted to black and gray hat seo techniques. In fact, white hat seo specialists rely on this free plagiarism checker to make darn sure their freelance writers are submitting work that is 100% original and unique.
They are also links… feel free to click on any red lines and see the original source for your records. When the test is done, you’ll also be given an exact percentage that tells you how original or unique your article is.

The article you entered is scanned carefully, and so is the world wide web. It’s very likely you’ll see some red in your results as common phrases may trigger red flags. If there are complete sentences that aren’t original, this tool will identify the original source of any unoriginal or plagiarized content that was copied from the internet.
Other plagiarism checker tools are limited with the opportunity to “go premium” to unlock the full features. But ours is free. No catch. No strings attached. No membership required… we’re easy like that!
Of course there are a number of great uses for this tool beyond search engine optimization as well. Students often use it to check papers for missing citations before turning their work in. Meanwhile, teachers use this free tool to check for plagiarism in assignments. (It’s a double edged sword, that’s for sure!)
Understanding the results:
Duplicated content results in a lower page rank. If you publish an article or web page content that is not entirely unique and original, there is a significantly higher risk of being blacklisted by Google and other search engines. So, if your goal is to have a higher page rank– and search engine results placement (SERP) — then it’s simply not worth the risk of publishing heavily duplicated content. Right?
How the Plagiarism Check Tool Works:
Phrases or sentences shown in red already exist online and will not pass Google plagiarism tests.

Next, you can use the scrapers' laziness against them. Most of the scrapers on the web will re-publish content without editing, and thus, by including links back to your site, and the specific post you've authored, you can ensure that the search engines see most of the copies linking back to you (indicating that your source is probably the originator). To do this, you'll need to use absolute, rather that relative links in your internal linking structure. Thus, rather than linking to your home page using:
Unfortunately, the web is filled with hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of unscrupulous websites whose business and traffic models depend on plucking the content off other sites and re-using them (sometimes in strangely modified ways) on their own domains. This practice of fetching your content and re-publishing is called "scraping," and the scrapers make remarkably good earnings by outranking sites for their own content and displaying ads (ironically, often Google's own AdSense program).
When you publish content in any type of feed format - RSS/XML/etc - make sure to ping the major blogging/tracking services (like Google, Technorati, Yahoo!, etc.). You can find instructions for how to ping services like Google and Technorati directly from their sites, or use a service like to automate the process. If your publishing software is custom-built, it's typically wise for the developer(s) to include auto-pinging upon publishing.
There are more advanced ways to protect against scraping, but none of them are entirely foolproof. You should expect that the more popular and visible your site gets, the more often you'll find your content scraped and re-published. Many times, you can ignore this problem, but if it gets very severe, and you find the scrapers taking away your rankings and traffic, you may consider using a legal process called a DMCA takedown. Luckily, SEOmoz's own in-house counsel, Sarah Bird, has authored a brilliant piece to help solve just this problem - .
<a href="../>Home</a>You would instead use:<a href="http://www.seomoz.org">Home</a>
Defending Your Site's HonorHow scrapers steal your rankings
This way, when a scraper picks up and copies the content, the link remains pointing to your site.

Together, we’ll have customers banging on your storefront. You’ve already gone to the effort of searching, now it’s time to commit. We’re ready, and so are you.
A dentist in New Jersey was interested in increasing the number of patients he gained from his website. He hired an SEO consulting company to improve his page ranking and visibility. There was almost no work done on improving his user experience. Nearly six thousand dollars later, the dentist’s website had received only a tenth-page ranking on Google, and he had received no more patients, on average. The six thousand dollar investment in page views no doubt seems excessive given those results. But if you’re closing more sales than ever before? It’s hard to argue.
Our Services
and pages. The most important component to both of them is finding out who you want your website to attract, grabbing their attention, and making the barrier to sales very low. You only have about ten seconds to capture the attention of a potential customer before he leaves your website, so there needs to be enough to catch his eye without being garish and off-putting. It’s a careful balance that takes time to perfect, but once done, your bottom line will be bulging.
Seattle SEO Consulting offers services in , , , and website content production. All of these things are designed to make your website shine. It’s no longer sufficient to have a block of text and a picture. The average web user needs to see that real effort goes into your online presence in order to be impressed.
To your success,
We understand that users surf the internet in different states of mind. Some will search for things they want, some will search for what they’re curious about, and others will search, almost mindlessly, as they think through other stressors. The key to sales success is breaking those trances, turning the surfing habit into a buying compulsion. You can only do that by optimizing your site for the customer. We can help.
To help people learn more about our services, I’m offering an absolutely free 30 minute phone consultation.. Between the time you schedule and the time you call, we’ll review your web presence and think about different courses of action. From there, you’ll be able to decide which of our services your business can make best use of. You can also read through our website to get some information before the call – any questions you have will be answered.
If you don’t focus on both things, SEO is, as so many people claim, a useless endeavor. Take this story, for example:

It's no secret that for years, most SEO professionals have recommended against plugins for any kind of serious WordPress SEO. While fine for 'casual' use, up until now plugins have been unable to compete with bespoke program logic and extensive manual theme integration for flexibility, completeness, performance and scalability.
(Greg's High Performance SEO focuses exhaustively and exclusively on genuine SEO characteristics, so if you want something to fix the coffee or insert your ad code, you'll need a different plugin for that.)
Greg's High Performance SEO now offers to everyone the kinds of benefits previously available only to those willing to invest in expensive bespoke coding and extensively hand modified themes.
This plugin enables you to configure several important SEO characteristics in each of these five areas:
This plugin is intended for anyone who wants to help search engines find their material: it's not just for professional marketers, it's not just for those who make their living via the web, and it's certainly not only for developers or full-time settings tweakers.
Support for Legacy SEO Plugins
A built-in conflict checker will let you know if it detects that other plugins may be using output buffering hacks that can interfere with your SEO preferences.
Although this plugin is not supported by the author in the WPMU (WordPress Multiuser) environment, independent testing by our community of users confirms that it is fully compatible with the WPMU platform.
New in This VersionIntroduction
To help with that, in addition to extensive inline explanations for each of its over 100 separate settings, Greg's High Performance SEO also includes a detailed 5000-word usage guide and introduction to WordPress SEO. So you'll never be left in the dark as to what on Earth a particular setting should or could be used for.
Greg's High Performance SEO also provides built-in support for titles and keywords left behind by alternative SEO and other legacy plugins such as:
The full set of SEO characteristics can be configured for each of the following types of output:
The plugin provides configurable additions for the Post and Page writing and editing screens, as well as for the Dashboard's QuickPress feature. All writing and editing additions can be restricted so that only contributors authorized to publish posts can use them.
NOTE: Please do NOT use the WordPress forums to seek support for this plugin. Support for GHPSEO is handled on .
The plugin will help you to leverage the built-in capabilities of WordPress -- which is already a semi-decent SEO platform right out the box -- by taking important content and meta-content that would otherwise not be included on the page and making it visible and useful to humans and machines alike. This is not automatic: it will take a little effort on your part. (Genuine SEO is never automatic.) But this plugin is designed to provide a sufficiently rich palette of tools that optimizing your site as it grows can become second nature to you.
WordPress SEO plugins have been done before, but never like this.
WordPress itself seamlessly imports legacy data from several plugins, providing automatic support for the following additional plugins:
Automatic Conflict Checker
What Can You Do With Greg's High Performance SEO Plugin?
Should You Even Use an SEO Plugin?
Offering direct control over more than 100 separate on-page characteristics important for SEO, while loading fewer than 700 lines of code for each ordinary page view and playing nicely with other plugins, this plugin has been designed from the ground up for performance and compatibility. (By contrast, the most popular SEO plugin configures only around 20 characteristics, demands more than 2000 lines of code for each page view, and employs crude output buffer hacks which can sap performance and trample on many other plugins.)

As for content, here&rsquo;s what we&rsquo;ve been up to (as % of total respondents):

Of course, it&rsquo;s important to point out that our respondents are naturally biased toward SEOmoz and Distilled events, but it&rsquo;s interesting to see the rise in smaller events and even events that we don&rsquo;t typically think of as being marketing-focused (like WordCamp).
As our industry evolves, we tend to naturally assume that everyone is specializing. Interestingly,
the 2012 survey data suggests that the generalist/specialist split is alive and well. In total, 47% of respondents said they would “stay generalized” or “become more generalized”, while 39% would stay or become more specialized. When asked what percentage of time they spent on various internet marketing tactics, the top bucket (by % of respondents) for every tactic was 1-25% - quarter-time or less. Most internet marketers are still wearing more than one hat.
How did that stack up against where our teams are spending their time?
While ultimately one person has to write up the results, this was a large effort across the entire SEOmoz team, a group which has officially become too numerous to thank individually. We sincerely have done our best to bring you accurate and useful information. Difficult as it is to admit, though, we are imperfect, and suggestions for next time are always welcome. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the results of our 2012 Industry Survey.
The data from our biennial internet marketing industry survey is in. In the write- up for our , Will Critchlow called it “a period of extreme economic uncertainty” &ndash; two years later, and it feels like that description is still far too accurate. Yet, somehow, our industry seems to be thriving. At Mozcon last month, a group of us were discussing just how many companies we know have moved recently or are moving soon because they outgrew their old spaces (SEOmoz, , London, Distilled Seattle, , , to name a few). Every day, I hear someone in SEO complain that they can&rsquo;t find the “right” people to hire.
Top Tools (by Category)
Here are some shotgun top 5 lists of tools, across four categories:
The top 10 paid tools (as % of respondents) are:
Of course, “SEO” and “Social” are pretty big buckets. Here are the top 10 inbound marketing focused actions that we actually spent our time doing (as % of respondents):

What's In Store for 2014?

Training and Conferences
Service Mix and Demand
Over half of respondents have attended a conference in the past two years (including local meet-ups). Here are the top 10 industry events for our audience:
International Marketers

Individual vs. Team Priorities
Ad spend is diversifying in 2012, although traditional PPC still leads the way. Following is a graph of ad spend by category (total respondents).

Not surprisingly, Facebook and Twitter still dominate the landscape. While Pinterest has come on strong, it still trails all of the big players, including YouTube.
Topping the list of services with the biggest decrease in demand are &ndash; Event planning (67%), Offline marketing (51%), and PR (48%). Of course, it&rsquo;s important to note that our audience is strongly focused on online marketing, so these decreases are probably just the natural evolution of our industry.

Before we shout “We&rsquo;re #1,” it&rsquo;s important to note that this survey obviously was created and promoted by SEOmoz, so the sample is very biased. Don&rsquo;t read too much into the 55%.
So, what are we doing, exactly? Not surprisingly, most respondents (92%) have SEO services as part of their mix. The rest of the top 5 breaks down like this (keep in mind that most respondents offer multiple services):
Where is all of that sweet, sweet cash coming from? In 2012, respondents reported the following
budgets for consulting services, with over a third (34.4%) spending $1,000/month or more on consulting and outsourcing:

Where do we learn to work our magic? Most of us still get our industry education online, but in-person events round out the top 5:
While I admit that I'm biased, the one thing I see the most in our industry is optimism, even in a struggling economy. Companies are hiring and building new offices, new tools are exploding on the scene, and niche conferences are popping up every week. It should be an exciting two years, and we look forward to checking back in with you in 2014.
Of course, we don&rsquo;t want to take our international audience for granted - respondents represented 65 countries in the 2012 survey. Many people asked last time to see more than the top 10 countries, so here are the top 25, by % of respondents:
Focusing on SEO, there&rsquo;s still a solid divide between paid and free tools. Almost 24% of you don&rsquo;t use paid tools at all (and probably run with scissors), but we&rsquo;ll get to that in a minute.

So, what did a typical internet marketer in the 2012 survey look like? I know “typical” is a dangerous word, but just for fun, here&rsquo;s a persona of our average respondent:

Companies are clearly getting more savvy about analytics and are making room in their budgets for a wider variety of tools. Free tools are changing the game, with an incredible 93% of respondents using Google Analytics, and old-school enterprise analytics tools are only going to face more obstacles in the next two years. Over half (57%) of respondents reported using conversion tracking to improve ROI, 41% employed A/B or multivariate testing, and 24% implemented multi-channel attribution. The way we use our data is only going to get more sophisticated as our industry matures.
Salaries by Role *
Spending and Budgets
US representation decreased from our 2010 survey (53% to 47%), while the UK grew from 9% to almost 13%. Israel fell out of the Top 10 from the #4 position in 2010, and Brazil slipped to 11th, while Romania narrowly pushed its way into the #10 spot.

While people reported that their teams spent more time on link-building and writing/blogging while
they personally spent more time on on-page tactics, it&rsquo;s interesting to note that the top priorities are pretty similar. Online marketing is still a hands-on business, even at the upper levels.

With all of the hype over infographics, it&rsquo;s interesting to see that regular image content, e-newsletters, and videos all handily beat out infographics. Blog posts, social media, and good-old articles and guides lead the way.
Technical SEO, especially, is only getting more complicated. Over half (58%) of respondents reported using the rel="canonical" tag in the past year, with 25% saying that they've used the even more obscure rel="prev"/"next" tags for pagination. Well over a third (41%) of respondents have implemented schemas or microdata, and almost a third (30%) have either fought Panda and declared victory or are still fighting the Panda fight (29%). As Google keeps adding new and more sophisticated signals, the complexity of on-page SEO is only going to increase.
Again, take the popularity of SEOmoz tools with a grain of salt. Free tools from search engines still rank highly on this list; although, Yahoo! Site Explorer was discontinued during the 12-month period.

Generalists vs. Specialists
Social Media Tools
In the last 12 months, here are the top 10 free tools you&rsquo;ve used (* denotes tools that also have paid versions):
So, who are we exactly, and how is it that we&rsquo;re bucking the trend of a recession that just won&rsquo;t seem to end? I&rsquo;m going to try to answer that question and give you a glimpse into the changing world of internet marketers. First, a couple of quick warnings about the data:
This matches up pretty well with perceived demand changes over the past year. These are the top 5 service areas that our respondents believe are growing (as % of respondents):
Last but not least, the rise of social media is undeniable. There have been a lot of arguments for where we&rsquo;re spending most of our time. Here&rsquo;s what you had to say about the top 10:
Tactics and Content

Client Reports
The average monthly spend on tools and software was quite a bit less, with only about 17% of respondents spending more than $1,000/month:
Of course, many of those percentages leave a lot of variety. Not surprisingly, the US accounts for a large part of our audience. Female respondents increased slightly over the 2010 survey, from 20.6% to 22.7% - that&rsquo;s 10.2% more women in the survey this year, but still a sizable gender gap.

5 Top 5 video hosting solutions Paid vs. Free Tools
In an industry that moves as fast as ours, the prediction game can be dangerous, but the data suggests a few trends. First, it seems clear that traditional SEO is alive and well. The algorithm is changing daily, SEO is still the 2nd highest-demand service area (71% of respondents), and SEO is the top priority for both individuals and their teams.

Not surprisingly, business owners made the most money, on average, with much higher percentages of respondents in the over $150K groups. Consultants/freelancers had the widest range of salaries, with the highest percentage of any of the four groups falling into the <$30K range. Agency and in-house marketers were somewhat comparable, although in-house showed a bit more representation in the higher salary ranges.
A “Typical” Marketer
While the future of any given social network is difficult to predict, the influence of social media on our industry is unmistakable. Social media tops the list of in-demand services and is in the Top 5 of current service offerings, individual priorities, team priorities, marketing tactics, and content tactics. The fate of newer networks, like Google+ and Pinterest, may be uncertain, but it's clear that there's room at the table for more than just Facebook and Twitter. Social will evolve rapidly, and the influence of social signals on rankings will increase.
It&rsquo;s an unavoidable truth of online marketing - they won&rsquo;t show you the money if you don&rsquo;t show them the reports. Most of our respondents (49%) are still doing monthly reports, with weekly reports not too far behind in 2nd place (32%). Quarterly (9%), daily (7%), and annual (3%) reports lagged far behind.
For the 2012 survey, we split roles out into more categories, with four big buckets: In-house, Agency, Consultant, and Owner. Here's a breakdown of salary ranges by those four groups:
- Dr. Pete Meyers
*Data includes only US, Canada, UK, Australia/NZ
When we&rsquo;re not learning, we&rsquo;re spending our time in the trenches. These are the top 5 tactics that respondents said they spent their individual time on (as % spending more than half their time):
That&rsquo;s a lot of Facebook business pages and Google+ business profiles. Competitive analysis and analytics factored heavily into the top 10, and almost 60% of respondents have used rel=”canonical” in the past year.
