The basis of Mechwarrior for those of you who don't know, lies within the Battletech Universe.

Here's my version:
Somewhere in the future (aprox year 3000) man creates a new battle machine called a Mech, which is basically a big robot with guns (this is nothing like those anime robots). And of course, man goes and makes war, as history repeats itself. Also, man can go and colonize other planets.
There's are two main factions in the game: The Inner Sphere and the Clans, each with their own inner factions which will war with each other, however, most of the conflicts in the Mechwarrior series are between the Clans and the IS.

Anyways, now to the game.
In Mechwarrior, you are a pilot of one of these giant Mechs (by giant, I mean at least 60ft tall). Your at war with someone as well.
Basic gameplay:
Mechs come in 4 basic types: Light, Medium, Heavy and Assault.
Light mechs are generally 35 tons and below, with Assault mechs at 100 tons. Bigger the mech, bigger the weapons and harder to take down.
You can customize your mechs with various weapons and tech upgrades (for example targeting computer, jump jets, etc).
The trick with Mechwarrior is to find a balance between firepower, speed, armor and heat management. Weapons produce heat, which you can compensate for by giving the mech heat sinks. Heat sinks, weapons, armor and tech alike all take up space and weight, and is customizable. It involves alot of choices.

I've played the games, from MW2 Mercs, to MW4. You may even notice some of my stuff is based around battletech (logo, comstar, etc).
The game can get really intense, especially online. If Xfire chose to work with this 3rd party expansion to the game, I'd show you...
