BASIC RUNDOWN
I am creating a series of basic, but fun, race maps. By basic I mean large BSP tracks - but before you sigh and look away, stay with me.
I plan on making five maps for this pack, they will use a similar race logic to Desert Race. The BSP is so the map should load fast and run nicely in game, even if your computer sucks, so no terrain, vegetation and trees. (Repeated meshes like boards have been made into static meshes for faster loading. (Don't ask, if you're good at the UED, you'd understand : P))

After playing CS:S a while (mainly just because I had it (came with HL2 when my Dad got it years ago)) I had noticed that Noob Hammer Editors (Source Engine = Hammer Editor) would use basic textures on whatever to denote what said surface did, or was for that matter. I loved the construction editor feel that this gave, thus pushing me towards experimenting with this style. It also helps me to judge things in games as well as with the editor. I am deciding to use this theme across my CRP tracks.
As you can see, the Floor is noted, floors are recognised by the grey colour. Ceilings also use the same colour. Walls always use orange. The greens denote spawn areas and the olive colour back there says 'Trigger'. Guess what that does. (Static Mesh Dev!) That picture is a quater of the spawn room in AS-CRP-Splitter.ut2.
All textures were created by me replicating a theme, they have not been copied or stolen. /legal.

Maybe You me and Zephyr can work on a cool race map idea i had? I can terrain now and do alot more stuff. My Idea was like starting out on a snowy terrain race with crevasses pits and bumps, then, all of a sudden, a tunnels comes up, with a pit stop inside, it has link guns or skrith rifles and stuff for repair just in case, then when you pop outta the tunnel, BAM! you in a desert! and keep continueing thatso on and so forth _________________ [19:50] Sonix: HEAT SEEKING LASER GUIDED FLYING BITCH-SLAP-YOUR-BUNKER-OPEN CROISSANT

Advertise in your own race track thread. And stay on topic!
I tried a terrain level, it was bad. It's not easy, you need the sides steep to seop peeps escaping the track, also bumpy terrain can throw cars off, but too flat is unrealistic.
You also need a LARGE terrain to do anything good with, but the size I'm thinking takes alot of time and patience to set up properly.
I have given it a thought and tried it myself. I find that my basic aproach will work, you'll see.

For stopping people escaping, how about a forcefield that comes up if anyone goes too far out? There's an original UT2004 map that has this, can't remember the name. But it has a waterfall among others... _________________ Inability to think independantly. |
